session details

session inclusions:

each photo session includes emailing/phone calls to review your session details, a wardrobe consult, a meet & greet (if desired), digital files + a print release, an online ordering gallery & two years of online photo storage/backup.

i offer a variety of session styles to meet the needs of my families, which are noted below ...

studio

i have an in-home, multi-light studio (natural & studio light), which i use for maternity, newborn, baby & child sessions. soft whites/creams, sheer, lace curtains, and an off-white wrought iron style queen bed adorns the studio as well, to bring a clean, classic, yet "homey" feel to the studio, for those wanting something a bit more relaxed from their studio session. the sitter area has a large, off-white flokati rug and the option of having a cream background or white/lace curtains for a dreamy feel.

maternity: i have a growing collection of maternity gowns for my mums, white, lace, and soft pinks, from Free People & Pink Blush.

newborns: there are a variety neutral knits, bonnets, wraps, fabrics & simple props available for styling posed newborn sessions.

babies/children: a variety of rustic props & a soft/neutral/timeless wardrobe are available for styling your baby/child's studio session -- think whites, creams, soft pinks and blues, classic dresses & rompers for baby girls, cute vests/blazers & the most adorable suspender jeans for little boys. most wardrobe pieces are from H&M, Zara, Mayoral, Target or Gap.

outdoor/on-location

there are a variety of places in polk & story counties that i love to use for maternity, baby, child, family, couples, senior, and extended family photo sessions. many are at/near the lake, which allows for gorgeous wooded areas, back country roads, and beaches. downtown des moines & uptown ankeny are also popular for an urban look. that being said, if there is a location that is meaningful to you, please contact me and we can discuss travel.

sessions are very relaxed & i do my best to make them enjoyable for all involved (even the parents!). for more information on my photographic style, hop over here.

outdoor sessions typically begin 1-2 hours prior to sunset, depending on the session style and how many different spots we plan to visit.

at home documentary

documentary sessions at your home and/or any locations you plan to explore the day of our session. they are meant to capture the beautiful-messy-ever-day-glory YOU call LIFE! it's just another day for your family -- your life -- your story -- your truth. i'll be there to help tell that story by capturing all the beauty & wonder of you & yours, your babies & children & grandchildren alike ... and preserving those sweet details and fleeting moments you hold dear to your hearts!

the only planning involved with this session style is me getting to know your beautiful family! let's chit-chat over email or a cup of tea ... tell me what truths you want told and what moments or details you want ... scratch that ... need to remember, right here and right now.

no muss, no fuss ... you don't need the perfect hair or wardrobe. you could even start out in your pajamas! no need for an elaborate schedule either, let's just do what comes naturally. friends, let's just keep it real!

scheduling/booking

maternity sessions are typically booked during the 2nd trimester, and scheduled for 28-34 weeks, while newborn sessions are usually booked 2-4 months in advance. that being said, i won't turn away mums who decide to schedule a session after baby has already arrived. :)

all other photo sessions are typically booked 3-4 months in advance, and i take on a limited amount each month to ensure each client receives my undivided attention for session planning & a reasonable turnaround time on their photographs.

a portrait agreement & deposit are due within 3 days of booking in order to guarantee your session date/time. once your session is booked, you will receive more detailed information, including a session prep packet, session time, and location confirmation/directions.
